Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) which was founded in 1973 has an amazing opportunity for the above position in the non-profit sector. AACI’s mission is to improve the health, mental health, and well-being of individuals, families and the Asian community. We do this by providing an array of high quality health and human services, sharing expertise about the Asian community’s needs and best services delivery practices, and providing Asian leadership in advocating on key health and human services issues. AACI has over 170 employees and an annual budget of over $16M.

Position Summary

As a key member of AACI’s executive team, the Medical Director reports to the President & CEO and assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the health center.

Specific Functions


  • Direct and oversee all daily aspects of the clinical function of the organization.
  • Establish, monitor and improve the standards of care through performance benchmarks and goals.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance clinical performance, effectiveness, efficiencies, productivity and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and revise clinical policies and procedures, quality initiatives and practice guidelines.
  • Manage provider staff.
  • Privilege and proctor, when necessary, new provider staff.
  • Oversee utilization review, pay for performance programs and provider productivity measurements.
  • Ensure clinical compliance with the 19 FQHC program requirements.
  • Develop, oversee and report upon quality improvement and assurance activities.
  • Develop, oversee and report result of peer review.
  • Coordinate, evaluate and oversee clinical referrals and physician specialty panels, as needed.
  • Provides on-call, emergency services as appropriate; and provides back-up coverage for all physicians in all clinic locations.
  • Report on clinical function to AACI Board of Directors.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Possession of a Medical Doctor degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Possession of California Medical License in good standing.
  • Current DEA number and other applicable licenses/certifications.
  • Must maintain active supervisory certification as required by the State of California.
  • Two years of clinical experience, preferably in a community clinic setting.
  • 5+ years in progressively responsible healthcare leadership roles.
  • Experience with utilization review, quality management and physician practice management.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity and dependability.
  • Functions well in a team environment, contributing to and supporting organization goals and initiatives.
  • Operates effectively as part of an executive team.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong problem solving skills.
  • Exercises sound judgement.
